For the first time ever I'm opening up my etching studio in Bristol to host an etching workshop! Have a spin on my 150 year old press and have a go at producing your own plate and small edition of work.
Drypoint etching is an intaglio printmaking technique that allows for intricate and expressive mark making in satisfying and surprising way!
The more disturbance to the plate surface, the more spaces you are making for the ink to sit in. This is a popular approach for those that enjoy drawing and would like to make an edition of their work as well as enjoying the new styles of line you gain with this technique.
You may not quite know how each print will reveal itself, even from the very same plate. This process is well suited for beginners and seasoned printmakers alike, as the mark making possibilities on the plate surface are endless but always looks pleasing even with simple line work.
WHO
You'll be guided by me, Rosie a professional artist working with etching for eleven years. I studied Drawing and Applied Arts (fine art) BAhons degree at UWE where I first learnt the process and have been working with this process ever since.
Although I usually use acid etched copper plates more than drypoint myself and the photography on this page ad is from my copper plates!*
Questions about printmaking from paper registration to framing, selling art and keeping creative are encouraged! I've also been a life drawing teacher in Bristol for the last two years so I hope I can guide you where you might want to go with your drawing and design for the class
